Stony Brook University’s Chemical Biology Training Program (CBTP) provides a unique training environment for graduate students interested in research at the interface of chemistry and biology. Supported by an NIH NIGMS T32 grant, the CBTP aims to produce successful, independent, professional, rigorous, and ethical Ph.D. scientists while promoting a scientific research environment that is inclusive and supportive of trainee development.
The CBTP is an integral part of the vibrant interdisciplinary community that exists between the life and physical sciences and the medical school. The faculty who participate in the CBTP have primary appointments in Chemistry, Applied Mathematics and Statistics, Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, Pharmacological Sciences, and Physiology and Biophysics departments. A member of the CBTP training faculty, Alty group members can apply to be a part of the CBTP to gain financial support for their 2nd and/or 3rd years of their PhD and professional development opportunities. Participating graduate programs include those getting their Ph.D.'s within Biochemistry and Structural Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, or Pharmacological Science Ph.D. programs.
