We are thrilled to announce that Gabriel Villacres-Balseca will be joining the State University of New York (SUNY) Summer Opportunities for Academic Research (SOAR) program here at Stony Brook University.
A joint initiative between the Center for Inclusive Education (CIE) and Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities (URECA), SUNY SOAR is a multidisciplinary research experience designed for motivated, first-generation, or economically disadvantaged students. SOAR students work with a faculty mentor and become fully integrated into active research groups using state-of-the-art facilities. In addition to compensation for a stipend, housing, and meals, the SOAR program also facilitates weekly seminars on Research Methods and Graduate School Preparation, workshops, and a program-wide poster symposium at the end of the summer.
This summer, Gabriel will be contributing to SUNY's key research areas of climate/sustainability and biotechnology/bioengineering by investigating how micronutrients are changing in our environment and affecting our microbiome. We are excited to see what Gabriel accomplishes this summer thanks to SUNY SOAR!
